Cost of Goods Sold
Your Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) -- the dollar value of your product usage between two inventory counts -- is one of the most important stats you can track over time. It tells you how much it costs to produce the food & drink you sell to your customers.
The formula for COGS is pretty simple. In BevSpot, you need a minimum of TWO full inventory counts and all of your purchases for that inventory period recorded accurately to calculate it:
COGS = (Starting Inventory Value + Value of Purchases) - Ending Inventory Value
For next level reporting, we also include any inventory that gets Transferred in or out of your establishment, as well as keeping track of ingredients that get prepared in house.
To see an item-level COGS breakdown, check out the Cost of Goods Sold report.
From the Main Menu:
- Click Reports
- Cost of Goods Sold
- Select the Inventory Period you would like to check your usage for (you can track your usage between any two finalized counts in BevSpot).
- Use the Graph and Table below to see how each product you carry is being used.
- You can also see how much of your usage is attributed to spills or breakage on the far right of the table if you are also recording Breakage/Loss accurately in BevSpot.
